  • $55.6 billion - estimated total assets collectively managed by ASF members
  • $2.59 billion - estimated total grant dollars awarded by ASF members in 2005
  • Almost two-thirds of member grants targeted local communities.
  • $52.9 million - estimated grant dollars awarded by ASF members for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts in 2005
  • Thirteen (13) percent of member foundations have assets under $1 million, 41% have assets between $1 million and $10 million, and 45% have assets over $10 million.
  • Almost two-thirds (61%) of ASF members are family foundations; slightly more than one-third (37%) are independent foundations; and 2% percent are corporate foundations.
  • About one-third of ASF’s member foundations were formed within the past 10 years; 23% were formed 11 to 30 years ago; and 42% were formed more than 20 years ago.

Statistics were gathered from the 2006-2007 Foundation Operations and Management Survey.
