Commonfund/ASF 2008 Benchmarks Study
ASF and the Commonfund Institute are pleased to bring you this comprehensive analysis of investment management and governance practices at small foundations nationwide. We are grateful to the 210 ASF members who devoted time and thought to this landmark study.

We are also pleased to present the 2008 Commonfund Report of investment practices of 300 large foundations. We think you, our members, will find additional insights and lessons that could be applied at small foundations. These survey results are already being used to inform our investment curriculum and programs for you in 2009 in beyond.

Salary and Benefits Report

ASF is grateful to the 491 foundations that responded to our questionnaire on compensation practices in spring 2008. The final results will also be incorporated into the 2008-2009 Foundation Operations & Management Survey Report.

About our research

ASF’s research is divided into three components: a Salary and Benefits Survey (conducted in January-February), an Investment Survey (conducted in March-April), and an Operations and Management Survey (conducted in May-June). By isolating the salary and investment components, we are able to collect data and report back on these topics much earlier in the year – as requested by our members. All data is combined to create the ASF Foundation Operations & Management Survey report, published annually in the fall.
